Do You Believe In Your Gifts?

If I say these three names: Steven, Jennifer and Randy, do you know who I’m talking about?  If I say James Durbin, do you know who I'm talking about?

Last year, I vowed I would forevermore not get caught up in the American Idol craze in 2011. Well, that was last year in 2010 and here I am, glued to the tube taking it all in. Last year, I even took notes and while you might say Sucher needs to get a life, I simply love American Idol and I love watching it!

Maybe it’s just my imagination, but the talent is incredible this year, plus I love the new trio of judges! Each year, as I watch the try-outs across America, I too am looking for that one single contestant who, in my opinion, stands out above all others and right or wrong, this year I happened to notice a James -- a James Durbin – the rocker. If you haven’t checked him out yet, do so when you get a chance.

So where, might you wonder, am I going with this post and what does it have to do with job search?  I’m not sure…though what I think I am thinking is this:

* Go get’em James. Go do your thing and I will be cheering for you as you scream your songs! (Rockers do scream, don’t they?)

* Despite Asperger’s and Tourette’s, James went for it and has prevailed to the Top 24 AI’s!

* James didn’t let a ‘dual diagnosis’ stop him or hold him back from his goal.

* James didn’t let obstacles, events, hardship, circumstances, life, etc. get in the way – he had a dream and he went for it. 

* James puts his heart and soul into his performances on a consistent basis.

* James doesn’t pretend to be anything he’s not – what you see is what you get.

* James Durbin is a brand – maybe you’re attracted to his unique and distinct brand; maybe you’re not.

* James Durbin brings it! Whenever he gets a chance to perform before the judges, it seems to me that he gives it his all!

James Durbin has made me step up as a counselor, a resume writer, a career coach, a  friend, a wife and a Mom. His passion inspires me! Maybe he has even encouraged you to step-up as a committed, focused, disciplined and determined job hunter who will not quit on your dreams, desires and goals.   

Maybe James will win the American Idol title – maybe he won’t.

James Durbin is already a winner in my mind. Go James – rock on!
