- Apply now, not later (far better to apply with an imperfect resume / CV than to not apply whilst you wait for the perfect moment)
Have an idea for a new business away from the day job?
- Get it off the ground on a small scale quickly (you quickly learn lessons and can improve or drop the idea)
Been passed a new lead or contact?
- Follow up and make the call immediately without delay (the longer you delay, the colder the lead becomes)
Got an idea for a great new web domain
- Buy it now (domains are cheap as chips)
Want to start a new training course?
- Just sign up (maybe in a small, low cost way first - but sign up rather than over thinking)
Got an under performing team member you’re concerned about?
- Sit them down and have the conversation now, not later (the longer you leave it, the harder it becomes)
Feel the urge to speak with a colleague or boss who is disrespecting you?
- Speak with them now and nip it in the bud (you'll feel so much better)
Want to hire a mentor or coach?
- Do it now (the quicker you start, the quicker you'll get the results you want)
Want to start a blog?
- Get started now and improve as you go (we learn and improve by "doing" not "planning")
Feel you’re justified in asking for a pay rise?
- Schedule a meeting with your boss and ask for it now (what’s the worst that could happen?)
Got a hunch to call an old contact?
- There’s a reason for the hunch. Don’t worry about what it is – just make the call now
THE PROBLEM WITH DELAYING
- You miss opportunities
(For jobs, businesses, income and new experiences)
- You deny yourself the chance to to learn
(Taking actions quickly helps you screw up a little and learn the lessons which will aid you in the future)
- You miss out on stories
(Life and work is all about stories. Every one of the above is an opportunity to create a new story)
- You have lots of regrets in old age
(Which is no way to live)
PULL THE TRIGGER THIS WEEK
1. What’s “that thing” you’ve been delaying and procrastinating about?
2. What’s the first “baby step” you can take this week?
3. Stop procrastinating and do it now. Go on, pull the trigger!
