Job Seekers: Onward Through the Fog

Images En route to our destination yesterday, we came upon dense fog. Up ahead, we could see nothing but a dull, gray-colored blur. Within a short distance in front of us, you could see taillights disappear, swallowed into the hazy nothingness of winter's morning greeting.

The scene reminded me of countless conversations I've had with job seekers who share how unclear, how uncertain their future, their careers, their job hunt...in some respects, much like the fog encountered along the way to our target location:

...You know there's a road, a path somewhere ahead, you just can't see it for the fog.

...You believe in your heart that you will get another job sometime, somewhere, somehow, but at the present moment, it isn't clear how you will get from here to there.

...Even though you can't see the road in front of you, you just keep telling yourself you know it exists.

...Where there's fog one day, there's a possibility it will lift later on, or by tomorrow, and bring better visibility for the long road trip before you.

...While you can never know for sure what lies ahead, you know with certainty there's only one direction ----> through the fog ----> and you vow to do your best to keeping moving forward -- no looking back, taking exits or stopping.

...Just as you may drive in, through and out of the fog, so too can you as a job seeker make it onward through your own foggy, overcast, gloomy, dark and dreary days to one with more focus and increased clarity. Fog winter

...Going through the fog of finding new work means that you are willing to take a chance and trust in what you cannot see.

Wishing you safe travels, some sunny days, and always, an attitude of onward through the fog.
