Recruitment resource XpertHR asks this week if higher inflation will lead to a wage increase by the UK workforce in 2011. However, some commentators argue that if employers are forced to accept demands for high wages, jobs might inevitably be cut, further raising unemployment.On our own Simply Hired blog, this week we had some expert HR views on how job-seekers should review their social media profiles before they start applying for jobs, how temporary work can be a stop-gap measure while the economy recovers, and in our jobs focus, how to approach accountancy as a career.The Daily Express interviews James Caan, the former Dragons Den panellist who has released his new book on looking for a job, “Get the Job You Really Want”. In it, the author and ‘recruitment guru’ claims that jobs in renewable technology, smartphone development, and healthcare will continue to be strong performers for 2011.ElectricPig.co.uk reports on how the Apple iPad and App-obsessed can get themselves a job at Apple. The site consulted with a number of former Apple employees to give them the inside track on how to mount a successful campaign for a job at the company – including getting a referral and the kind of developer resources Apple offers to software engineers.Finally a company in Lithuania is making headlines this week, but not for the right reasons. The BBC reports on OLiaLia, a new luxury holiday resort being developed in the Maldives, which is requesting only blondes need apply for a job via their website. All while the question of equality and merit-based employment remains a hot topic in the UK.
