Job Seeker's Allowance - Just out of Uni - The Student Room

Old 1 Day Ago: 17th February 2011 10:05 Jake P +1 Default Re: Job Seeker's Allowance - Just out of Uni Yes you should be able to still claim job seekers allowance. But be aware if you drop out of uni now, you will most likely have to pay back any grant/bursary you have got this year or at least some of it.Thank you. This was the answer I was looking for. And yes, I am aware that I'll have to pay something back.

And to everyone else, please refrain from giving your opinion on my situation, of which, I might add, you know very little about. I respect your opinions, but, quite frankly, I don't care for them right now, as my mind is made up, and this thread wasn't made to ask for opinions on my situation at all.

Old 1 Day Ago: 17th February 2011 10:06 Default Re: Job Seeker's Allowance - Just out of Uni So in short you are coming to the folks of TSR with a question about two options you have given yourself both of which resolve around you being lazy and undetermined. Quite frankly Jake, I would say stop whining, keep your arse in University and bloody work - what you don't like University? Not my problem. The fact is, you have an opportunity to improve your life in the future and you are willing to through it away because it's a wittle bit hard.. aww poor you.

Don't leave University and don't sit your lazy arse at home on welfare, work hard and get that damn degree.

Harsh, man. You're saying he should stick it out even though it's making him miserable. He didn't say it's because he's finding it too hard, just that he hates it. University isn't for everyone, or he may have made a mistake in picking his course.

Jake, try talking to your tutor/senior tutor. Find out the procedure for dropping out and maybe have a chat about why you're unhappy. Maybe they can help you out.
My friend dropped out of uni two years ago, but couldn't find a job after three months, so went on JSA and found a job two months later. So I think it is possible, but I'm not sure how you go about it. Hope it works out for you

I think people were just trying to help As sometimes there are problems, which no matter how bad they seem at the time, can actually be helped/improved. But fair enough, good luck Old 1 Day Ago: 17th February 2011 10:11 Default Re: Job Seeker's Allowance - Just out of Uni No, I came to TSR to ask a simple question, expecting a polite and straight answer. You expected a straight and honest answer and I gave you a straight and honest answer. You got what you asked for.

EDIT: I see you negged me. What? You ask for advise, I gave you my opinion and you neg me because you don't like the truth? Haha.

Oh no, he doesn't like it? What a shame - there are many people around the country who are in work they despise yet they are whining about it, they are working hard. Working hard at a job they hate - why? Because they aren't lazy and recognise that hard work pays off.

I don't know why you've been negged for being straight up and rational.Meh obviously they don't like tough love Last edited by Teaddict; 1 Day Ago at 10:13. Yeah, in this climate where grads are jobless, I would definitely make sure to choose the right course that will yield a lot in terms of career prospects.

Wiith the new fee system that's been introduced by the Govt, I would see this as an opportunity to get my education whilst it's still cheap.

I had some questions for the OP but I dare not ask.

Old 1 Day Ago: 17th February 2011 10:28 Default Re: Job Seeker's Allowance - Just out of Uni I take it you haven't left home yet? £50 a week is not a lot to live off at all... I mean, you have to think about a place to live, bills, food, transport, and then everything else on top of that. But i agree about sticking it out until you actually find a job, and what everyone else has said about why you actually want to drop out. is it somehting that can be helped? If not then obviously you'll have to consider doing something. No, I have not left home yet and I can see your point. Thank you very much for quoting me. I completely forgot about the bills and rents. XD Well, then I suggest sticking with the uni. That way, you still have somewhere to live while you getting a job and not having to worry about finding an accommodation. Keep your options open, OP.
