A desperate job hunter chained himself to Jobcentre railings over a an alleged benefit blunder.
Colin Crossley claimed he has not received any cash since May, after a hitch with his Jobseekers' Allowance.
The former demolition worker says he was forced to live on his sick partner's disability benefits after the mistake.
In desperation, Mr Crossley, 47, from Hendon, chained and padlocked himself to railings inside the Jobcentre in John Street, Sunderland, on Friday.
He told the Echo he had made numerous visits and phone calls in an effort to track down his cash, which had been paid since he was made redundant in November.
"To be honest, me and my partner are struggling. I have worked all my life and this is the first time I have had to sign on.
"I had nothing else to do. It was like a last resort. The staff were brilliant though."
Security staff sat with Mr Crossley during his two-hour protest and Jobcentre services were not affected.
