Job Seekers Challenged in a Social Media World | HireGround Blog

HireGround  has the capability of cross posting client openings to many online mediums - pay for job boards, free job boards, Twitter, Facebook or Linked-In are just a few of the locations that we can now have client positions appear. This is true for both the HireGround Software Applicant Tracking Systems and the HireGround Job Board.  Openings post to these locations in real time or next to real time, saving hours of the human resources associate’s time in manually getting these positions to view in these online locations. This is great right!

Well is this good for the company advertising these positions, as they will appear in many locations raising the search engine profile (SEO – Search Engine Optimization) of both the company, and of course their job opening.

But what does this mean for the job seeker attempting to find an opening in her/his area quickly and efficiently? It means bigger challenges for them. They now can potentially find a position on any company website, free and pay for job boards, or just plain out there in cyber space. Wow, where to start? The job seeker of today has to master ‘Google’ searches as well as my other tactics to stay on top of the job search world within the hours available in a day.

Some tactics that we can recommend:

Create feeds that deliver jobs that match your skills or job search criteria whenever possible. These feeds can be RSS, XML or other types of feeds offered by job boards or search engines such as Google. It will take a bit of reading time to understand how to best use them, but they are not hard. Most simply ask for you to paste a url into the engine.Start following companies that you are keenly interested in working for. Those that offer the kind of work that you are passionate about, along with the benefits, culture or other that you are able to determine from various sources. You might only follow 8-10 companies or… if you are keen, 100. This depends on your time, area of expertise, and determination.Follow the job boards that offer the kinds of positions that you seek. You may not find that lengthy searches on the larger boards benefit you, so try and locate niche or targeted boards that advertise positions in your area. Do not forget about associations that focus in your industry — they often advertise positions as well.Last tip of the day — do not just look online. You might want to visit industry events whenever possible. Sometimes the best knowledge of a new opening that is a fit for you might be through a friend or industry associate. Cultivate those connections and keep them for future assistance too.
