Have you ever thought about being a rapper?
Um....no.
But, I have not stopped thinking about that remark; it led me to write this post...The Job Search Rap. While I don't know the first thing about rapping, I do think about words most of the time. So rapper, or not, here are some rhyming words for you to consider with regard to your job hunt:
Aim ~ Before you look for a job, figure out first and foremost what kind of job you wish to target...you know the saying: no goals, no glory.
Blame ~ However it is that you got to be where you are now, it is what it is and if it ever crossed your mind (I'm just sayin') to blame someone for your plight, I would counsel you to rethink your position to one that better serves you and your chances for job search success.
Fame ~ What does fame mean to you? How do you define it, design it, assign it, refine it, align it, and combine it so that it makes sense to you?
Game ~ Looking for a job is a game and the job seeker who has figured it out to the best of his or her ability (with or without a coach), stands a much better chance of winning the prize (a job) in today's wickedly competitive market.
Lame ~ If your resume is lame, if your job search strategy and tactics are lame, your motivational effort is lame, and the commitment to yourself in moving forward is lame, consider rethinking how that lame is for losers -- and you are not a loser! Rethink, redirect, and revamp your focus so that you can become a true force to reckon with as a highly desirable job candidate.
Name ~ Your name. Sacred. Precious. Important. Cool. Valued. Good. Strong. Distinct. Unique. One of a kind. Think about your name and what words (if you were writing a rap song about yourself using your name) -- what positive words would you include to effectively represent you and your name? (You can go here and create a Wordle about you and your name. Print out the Wordle and place it in a prominent spot and look at it as a constant reminder of you and your name!)
Same ~ You are not the same as everyone else, so instead of trying to figure out how to be alike (and the same), consider how you are different in a meaningful and valuable way. Convert differences to your competitive advantage.
Tame ~ When I hear the word tame as it relates to job search, the first thing I think of is this: tame your fears. Fear of never finding a job. Fear of the interview. Fear of networking. Fear of making the call. Fear of rejection. Fear of the word no. Fear of how to pay the bills. Fear of accepting the wrong job. Fear of ____________ (fill-in-the-blank). How about taming the fear within you so that the hiring managers, recruiters, and human resources representatives of the world get to experience, hear and see the very, very best of you?
Aim. Blame. Fame, Game. Lame. Name. Same. Tame...yup, that's my rap song for you today. What's the job search rap song within you?
